SANTA TO THE SEA – SPONSORSHIP OVERVIEW

What started in 2003 as a toy drive to celebrate the relocation of the world’s largest Santa Claus from Carpinteria to Oxnard has grown into a robust running event, toy drive, community fundraiser, and holiday season celebration. The Half Marathon and Two-Person Relay starts at the legendary Santa Claus statue, located along the 101 freeway in Nyeland Acres, near Oxnard. The runners follow a flat and fast, USATF certified course, along the fragrant strawberry fields, through Downtown Oxnard and the Henry T. Oxnard Historic District decorated for the holidays, to the beach, and finish at Channel Islands Harbor. Now in its 7th year, Santa to the Sea features:

The Santa to the Sea Scholarship Program partners with the Oxnard College Foundation to award $500 scholarships to local high school students and adults continuing their education at Oxnard College. Funded by allocating $5 of every race entry to the program, plus a generous donation from the Gene Haas Foundation, Santa to the Sea awarded more than 75 scholarships in 2013 – a total of $37,500 – helping students realize their dreams of a college education. The Santa to the Sea Toy Drive collects more than 2,500 items for needy children in the area, with distribution at Santa Claus Park on the Saturday before Christmas. Additional fundraising flows from the event’s Charity Challenge, where runners raise money for local charities of their choice.
Participants & Audience
The Santa to the Sea Finish Line Festival & Holiday Marketplace at Marine Emporium Landing in Channel Islands Harbor is where it all comes together for thousands of race participants, spectators, supporters and community members. Crowds congregate early to visit vendors and get in position to cheer the runners, beginning with the 5K and 1K finishers, followed by the half marathoners from around 9:30 am to noon. Sponsors can connect to nearly 9,000 people on race day, including an anticipated 4,000 runners for 2014 and another 5,000 spectators at the Finish Line Festival. Runners are well known in marketing circles for their outstanding demographic profiles!

Consumers in and around Ventura and Los Angeles counties learn about Santa to the Sea through a comprehensive marketing campaign across print, online, and social media platforms. Monthly e-newsletters reach more than 10,000 race and event enthusiasts and more than 3,000 followers keep informed on the Santa to the Sea Facebook page.
