COVID 19 Santa to the Sea Cancellation for 2020, what do I do next?…

-Santa to the Sea 2020 Cancellation-

A few months ago, we closed registration to the 2020 Santa to the Sea Half Marathon and 5k due to the uncertainty of Covid19. In that time, our race team has weighed all of our options and have reached the painful decision that we cannot hold the event this December. Permits will not be granted by the city, nor can we guarantee the safety of our runners, volunteers and staff.

However, in the spirit of Christmas, we are creating a truly unique and FREE experience in hopes that you can still come out and enjoy Santa to the Sea, if only in an abbreviated way. Wanting to find a way to let our community of runners still participate in person, we decided not to have a traditional virtual event but instead have a 100% free event with socially distant drop off locations, and it will be called the “Santa’s Toy Run”. Check out the details HERE.

Already Registered for the 13th annual Santa to the Sea?

First off, thank you for being a dedicated Santa to the Sea supporter and we appreciate you and your generosity. We have lined up three options for you for how we handle your Registration. Please read each option carefully as we hope there is a choice for everyone.

Here are some options for those of you already registered for STTS:

Donate my registration to the causes STTS exists for:

Please consider donating your registration fee to our Scholarships Foundation and Annual Toy Drive. Some of you have already reached out offering to do just this, and we could not be more grateful. We have many people in great need who rely on us very heavily every year, and not being able to hold the event means, our schools, food drive, toy drive and scholarship giveaway, will not be able to help as many people as they normally do. Please help if you can! To donate your fee, simply do nothing. On December 14th, we will see who has not requested a deferral or refund and donate that money to our charity partners.

-Message from the Founder-

Dear Santa Runners,
My name is Mike Barber, founder of Santa to the Sea. When the virus hit, and the schools cancelled classes, we began to assist in the distribution of lunches to the school children. To date, with our sister organization, the Nyeland Promise, we have distributed 77,000 pounds of food and 101,860 pounds of fresh produce, and because of no schools in this area, we have distributed 76,208 school lunches…all since the middle of March! Your help will ensure we can continue our work helping those who need it the most. Santa is very busy helping this community and none of this would be possible without your generous help. If you would like to contribute to our programs to assist during this crisis, please consider donating HERE.

We here at STTS and Nyeland Acres sincerely hope you and your family are all healthy, and trying to find some solace in this crazy time.
